When Bluetooth® wireless technology is switched off, the Bluetooth® symbol disappears from both the lower black bar of the diabetes manager display and from the pump display. If the Bluetooth® symbol is flashing on the diabetes manager, this means that the pump and the diabetes manager are trying to make contact with each other. Make sure Bluetooth® wireless technology is switched on, on both the pump and the diabetes manager.

  • What happens when the diabetes manager and pump first connect?

When your diabetes manager and pump first connect, this is what happens:

    • The diabetes manager will adopt the time and date shown on the pump. If the time differs by more than 5 minutes between the diabetes manager and the pump, you will get a Time Mismatch Warning which you will need to confirm
    • The pump will send your bolus history to the diabetes manager
    • The pump will send any current Warning or Error signals to the diabetes manager. As you learned, you can deal with those using the diabetes manager or the pump

After performing the above tasks, Bluetooth® wireless technology lets you control the pump from your diabetes manager.

  • How do I know the pump is communicating with the diabetes manager?

Only when the pump screen is blank, the diabetes manager and the pump can send data to each other. The pump screen goes blank if no buttons on the pump are pressed for about 20 seconds. When the diabetes manager is communicating with the pump, you will see the sign on the pump screen.

  • Don't break the link!

The link between the diabetes manager and the pump will be broken if the devices are more than two meters apart. The link between the diabetes manager and the pump will also be lost if any key is pressed on the pump while it is unlocked. It is a good idea to lock the keys on the pump to avoid this.

Since all the data are stored on the pump, they won't be lost if the link between the diabetes manager and the pump is lost. Just restart the connection.
