You now know all about the buttons on the diabetes manager. Now, let's put those buttons to work! This lesson focuses on the diabetes manager Set-up Wizard. The Wizard walks you through a number of tasks which you will not do often, however, they are important for the system to be able to provide you information specific to your needs. These tasks include selecting time and date, language and other settings that will make it easy for you to review data displayed by the diabetes manager. You must complete the tasks in the Set-up Wizard before you can use the diabetes manager. Here's how.

For now, we will not set up Bolus Advice and reminders as you don't have all the necessary settings. We'll learn how to do this in the Advanced Training Module.
Press until the diabetes manager powers up. The Accu-Chek screen appears for a few seconds.
You may be prompted with a Warning that the time and date on your diabetes manager has been changed by more than 5 minutes, this is due to your diabetes manager has performed a synchronization with the insulin pump. Press to confirm.
The Language screen appears. You can select a language from the predefined list only. Only select the language you intend to use every day. If you select the incorrect language, you are not able to select another one. If you wish to keep the default language, press to select NEXT and continue to Step 6. If you want to change the language, go to the next step in the training tool.

Press to display the language options.
Press or to select the language of choice.
Press to save the setting. Press to select NEXT to move to Time/Date.
The Time / Date screen appears. If you wish to keep the default time, press to select NEXT and to Step 12, otherwise move to the next step in the training tool.
Press to change Time Format.
When you first get your diabetes manager, it will be set using the 12 h setting. Press or to select 12 h or 24 h Time Format. Press to save the changes.
Remember! The diabetes manager will always adopt the time and date shown on the insulin pump each time they connect. But the time format will not be changed. It will stay either at 12 hr or 24 hr.
Press to change the hour.
Press or to select the hour and Enter button to save.
Continue using , or and to set:
Press to select NEXT. This will move you to the Carbohydrate Units screen.
The Carbohydrate Units screen appears. Press to select NEXT, if you wish to keep the default setting of grams then go to Step 14. Otherwise, go to the next step.
Press to change the units for carbohydrates and continue using , and to select and save. You are now ready to select Hyper- and Hypo Warning limits. Press to select NEXT.
Note: Double check with your healthcare team the correct Carbohydrate unit for your region as once you have set this in the diabetes manager, you are not able to change it. If you set it incorrectly you will need to contact your Accu-Chek Care line / Customer Support for assistance
The Warning Limits screen appears.
Use , , and to set the Hyper- (High BG) Warning Limit
Speak to your doctor or healthcare team to obtain the Hyper value that is best for you.
Use , , and to set the Hypo- (Low BG) Warning Limit Press to select Next
Speak to your doctor or healthcare team to obtain the Hypo value that is best for you.
The display next shows "Would you like to receive Bolus Advice from your diabetes manager?" Press to select No.
For now, do not set-up Bolus Advice. These settings can be set-up later, according to the procedure described in the Advanced Training Module.
The next screen asks you to edit at least one time block. The main purpose for this is to edit your BG Target range. If you have different target ranges for different times of the day, edit the time blocks and target ranges accordingly. Press to select NEXT.
Speak to your doctor or healthcare team to obtain the BG target ranges that are best for you.
Press to move to the first time block. Your first time block normally should start at midnight. Confirm this with your healthcare team. Press again to enter into the Lowest Blood Glucose Value for the Target Range.
Press or to select the Lowest Blood Glucose Value for the Target Range.
Use , and to enter and edit the Highest Blood Glucose Value for the Target Range. Adjust the first value according to your healthcare team's recommendation then press to confirm.
Press once to save the changes. Press again to select NEXT.
The next screen shows "Would you like to set up BG Test Reminders? Press to select No.
For now, do not set-up Reminder Settings. These settings can be set-up later according to the procedure described in the Advanced Training Module.
The Set-up Wizard is now complete! Press to select Next and enter the main diabetes manager menu.
Switch off the diabetes manager. Press on/off button. Now you can use your diabetes manager to continue setting up your insulin pump.
Before you can test your BG level with your diabetes manager, you must perform a control test. You will learn how to do this later in this module.
