Your diabetes manager is already coded and comes with a pre-inserted black code chip that you never need to change. Even if you use test strips from test strip boxes that contain another code chip that is a different colour or has different numbers, you never need to change the black code chip again. Quality control solutions are used to check the operation of your diabetes manager. These solutions have pre-determined glucose values. So, when you run a control test, you substitute your blood for the test solution. If the control test result matches the values given in the quality control solution labelling on the side of the vial of strips, you know the system (diabetes manager and test strip) is working well.
Running a control test is easy! Let's see how.
At the end of this lesson, you will know how to:
You should run a control test with each new box of test strips. You should also run one if you suspect your blood glucose test result is not correct.
It's easy. Let's see how.
Place your diabetes manager on a stable flat surface (for example, a table) and insert the test strip into the Test Strip Slot in the direction of the arrow. The diabetes manager turns on.
The "Match Code to Vial" screen appears. Make sure the code number on the screen matches the code number on the test strip container.
The "Apply Sample" screen appears and a beep indicates that the strip is ready for testing.
Remove the cap from the control solution bottle and wipe the tip of the bottle with a tissue.
Squeeze the bottle until a tiny drop forms at the tip. Apply the drop to the front edge of the yellow window of the test strip.
The "Analyzing" screen appears as soon as you have applied enough solution. Wipe the tip of the control solution bottle and then put the cap back on the bottle tightly.
The "Control Result" screen appears on the diabetes manager. Press on the diabetes manager to display the Control Level screen.
Press or on the diabetes manager to select the control solution level. Press on the diabetes manager to confirm.
The "Control Result" screen appears. Compare the result to the acceptable range shown on the label of the test strip container.
When the control test result is within range, the test strips and diabetes manager are working properly. Remove and dispose of the test strip.
If the control test results are not correct, the system may not be working properly. In that case, try again with a new box of test strips. For further details, refer to the User's Manual accompanying your Accu-Chek Combo system.
You have completed the quality control testing section.
