You need to be able to adjust your insulin quickly and with ease to enjoy what life has to offer. You also need to be able to check what your pump is doing, without ever having to fuss with clothes! With your Accu-Chek Combo insulin pump delivery system, you can easily, quickly and discreetly adjust your insulin on the go to have more freedom and flexibility in managing your diabetes. This lesson focuses on how to use the diabetes manager to check the pump and how to program a Standard Bolus on the diabetes manager.

    Make sure your pump screen is blank. Turn the diabetes manager on and select pump in the diabetes manager main menu.

    Remember, if your insulin pump screen is blank, it will change to the Bluetooth® symbol as soon as you turn on the diabetes manager.

    Press Icon to confirm and the bolus delivery is activated. The bolus symbol flashes for five seconds (delivery start delay) before the bolus delivery starts.

    If you do not confirm within 20 seconds, the pump automatically returns to RUN mode without delivering a bolus.

    You can cancel a Standard Bolus in 3 ways:

    1. Cancel the Standard Bolus during programming
    2. Cancel the Standard Bolus during the delivery start delay
    3. Cancel the Standard Bolus during bolus delivery

  • Cancelling a Standard Bolus during programming

    You again have 3 options to cancel a Standard Bolus during programming and can use the pump or the diabetes manager. To do so:

    1. Press Icon on the diabetes manager or Icon and Icon on the pump to return to the STANDARD BOLUS screen. NO bolus has been delivered.

    2. Wait 20 seconds until the pump returns to RUN mode automatically. NO bolus has been delivered.

    Press and hold Icon or Icon on the diabetes manager or Icon or Icon on the pump until you hear a melody. A WARNING W8 BOLUS CANCELLED occurs: Press Icon twice on the diabetes manager or Icon twice on the pump to snooze and confirm the WARNING. NO bolus has been delivered.

    You can use the diabetes manager or the insulin pump for this task.

    Press and hold Icon or Icon on the diabetes manager or Icon or Icon on the pump until you hear a melody. A WARNING W8 BOLUS CANCELLED occurs. Press Icon twice on the diabetes manager or Icon twice on the pump to snooze and confirm the WARNING. Bolus delivery has been interrupted.

    You can use the diabetes manager or the pump for this task.

  • Now it's your turn! Use the demo diabetes manager to program a Standard Bolus of 2.6.

    If you cancelled a bolus once delivery has started, go back to the "Bolus history section" of the insulin pump (either via pump on the diabetes manager or directly on the insulin pump) to see how much (if any) insulin was delivered before the action was completed, if your bolus was for food, you will need to eat carbs applicable to the amount of insulin units that was delivered.

    Press on the pump buttons to practice what you have just learnt. If you decide to practice any functions, on your own diabetes manager, make sure the infusion set is disconnected from your body so that there is no chance of accidental insulin delivery. Ensure all your settings are put back to where they should be at the end of the practice.
