    Your Accu-Chek Combo insulin delivery system offers five different basal rate profiles to match your changing insulin needs. For example, you may work physically hard during the week and relax on weekends. You might want to sleep in later on the weekends. Your stress level may be lower on the weekends than it is during the week. All of these life changes may affect your basal insulin needs. This lesson shows you how to modify your basal rate settings.

    Always consult your doctor or healthcare team before changing your basal rate.

    • Press Icon to move to the BASAL RATE PROGRAMMING 1 screen (or 2, 3, 4 and 5 accordingly)

    • Continue using Icon and Icon or Icon to set the hourly basal rates for the remaining hours
    • This allows you to program your individual basal rate profile on an hour-by-hour basis
    • Continue until all 24 hours are programed

    • Press Icon to confirm
    • The new daily Basal Rate Total is displayed
    • Press Icon again to save the profile and exit

    You now know how to program basal rate profiles to suit your needs. Once you have done this, you can change your profile with only a few key strokes. Using your diabetes manager to perform this function means you can change the settings conveniently without having to access the pump. Let's look at how.

    • Press Icon to move to the BASAL RATE SELECTION screen
    • Press Icon to enter

    Remember! The Basal Rate selection function is only available in the ADVANCED menu.

    • Press Icon or Icon to select a basal rate profile
    • The selected basal rate profile and its daily insulin total appear
    • Press Icon to select and activate the basal rate profile immediately

  • Click on the demo diabetes manager buttons to practice what you have just learnt. If you decide to practice any functions on your own insulin pump or diabetes manager, make sure the infusion set is disconnected from your body that there is no chance of accidental insulin delivery. Ensure all your settings are put back to where they should be at the end of the practice.
