At the end of this lesson, you will know:
Let's get started by learning how to install the software.
Before you start, check that you have everything ready:
The Accu-Chek 360° configuration software is released for the following minimum operating systems and software from Microsoft: Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (but not recommended for use with Windows XP after April 8, 2014, as security update support is no longer provided), Windows Vista with Service Pack 2, Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Windows 8, and Windows 10.
The simplest way to install your software is to insert the Accu-Chek 360° configuration software CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then follow instructions on the installation windows. You must first close all programs on your PC, including any antivirus or screen-saver software.
After installation, your Start menu will show the Accu-Chek 360° configuration software group, and the Accu-Chek 360° configuration software desktop icon will be on your desktop.
You can also install the software manually. The next screen will explain how.
To install the software manually:
To start the software:
When you start the program, the first window you see (the Startup window) asks you whether you want to:
Depending on the version of the Accu-Chek 360° configuration software you are using, the screen may or may not look exactly like what you see here. For help, click the word Help in the upper right hand side of the window below the toolbar.
To read the settings from the insulin pump into the software, click Read from a device from the Startup window and follow the wizard instructions.
You can now change the settings on your insulin pump. You can use the software to change any of the existing settings on your insulin pump.
But before we do that, Let's see how to open a set of stored settings.
Depending on the version of the Accu-Chek 360° configuration software you have, the screen may or may not look like what you see here. Contact your Accu-Chek pump hotline should you have any questions or difficulties.
You or your healthcare provider can save settings to a computer file to use at a later time.
To open such a settings file, either click Open from settings file on the Startup screen or click Open File on the toolbar at the top of the screen. This opens a window with a list of saved settings. Select a file to open and click OK. Then, to send the new settings to the insulin pump, click Save to Device and or File and follow the on-screen instructions.
If you can't find the file you want in this window, look in the drop-down menu at the top of the Open File window.
You can set up, manage, and save five different basal rate profiles from the "Basal Rate Profiles" window:
You can now:
Let's see how this works.
When you open the basal rate profiles page, all five basal rate profiles are displayed, and the active profile is shown by a checkmark.
To activate a different basal rate profile:
Now let's see what happens if you click Options instead.
Look at what happens when you click Save Settings to pump and/or File a bit later in this module.
You can adjust the settings for a basal rate profile from the "Profile" window that opens when you click Options next to the profile you want to change. In this window you can:
Let's look more closely at how to make each of these changes.
Use the or arrows to adjust the Maximum Hourly Basal Rate
When you are satisfied with your changes, press OK (or Cancel if you do not want to keep your changes)
To change the units for a specific hour:
You can adjust your entire profile by specifying a percentage for the "Entire Profile Adjustment" either using the or arrows or by entering a percentage directly into the box.
Any changes you make to your basal rate profile need to be sent to your insulin pump. You must use Save Settings to device and/or File to send this information to the insulin pump.
When you are satisfied with your changes, click OK.
If you now want to send these new settings to your insulin pump, click Save Settings to device and/or File and follow the on-screen instructions to save the changes to the insulin pump and/or a file. Remember to activate the basal rate profile that you have just changed if you want the insulin pump to use this profile to deliver insulin.
The wizard will ask you to confirm the changes before they are sent to the insulin pump.
If you need help putting your insulin pump in communication mode, just click I need help putting the insulin pump......in communication mode in the first screen of the wizard. You can choose not to be asked this again.
By clicking on Temporary basal rate under basal rates and Bolus in the left hand navigation window, you can specify the settings for receiving a temporary increase or decrease in basal rate.
Let's see what changes you can make to the Temporary Basal Rate Settings.
Some values in the screen shots through out this training tool may vary compared to your own insulin pump. Check your configuration software for the exact value available.
The Default Adjustment is the standard percentage by which the insulin pump changes the basal rate temporarily. Type the appropriate value in the box or use the or arrow to select the appropriate value.
The Maximum Adjustment is the highest percentage by which a basal rate profile may be changed. Type the appropriate value in the box or use the or arrow to select the appropriate value.
The Maximum Duration is the longest period of time that a temporary basal rate can remain in effect. Type the appropriate value in the box or use the or arrow to select the appropriate value.
The Duration Increment is the time interval by which the duration is adjusted. Use the drop-down arrow to select the appropriate interval.
END OF TEMPORARY BASAL RATE ALERT
Lastly, you can choose whether or not you want to be alerted when the temporary basal rate is no longer in effect (use the Signal End of Temporary basal rate drop-down arrow to select on or off).
When you are satisfied with your changes to the Temporary basal rate Settings, click Save Settings to device and/or File and follow the on-screen instructions to send the changes to your insulin pump.
The bolus window allows you to personalize the settings your insulin pump uses when giving a bolus.
Use the arrows to adjust the Maximum Dose for all boluses
Each key press on your insulin pump will change the bolus size by the chosen increment
It is extremely important to be very careful when you change values for the Bolus Increment. Selecting the wrong value could lead to an accidental over-delivery of insulin.
Click "Insulin pump Options" on the left navigation menu to access:
When you are satisfied with the changed settings, click Save Settings to device and/or File and follow the on-screen instructions to send the changes to your insulin pump. Some values in the screen shots may vary compared to your own insulin pump. Check your configuration software for the exact value available.
If your insulin pump has been limited to the custom menu, you may want to discuss this setting with your healthcare professional.
Whenever you make any changes, whether to the basal rate profiles, the bolus settings or the insulin pump operations, you need to save your new settings to the insulin pump before they take effect. You can also save your changes to a file to use later on.
You can choose whether to send your new settings to your device or to a file, or to do both.
Click "Save Settings to device and/or File" and follow the on-screen instructions.
You can save your basal rate profiles settings to a file...... by clicking the icon (save to device) on the menu bar at the top of the screen.
It may be helpful to see exactly what changes you have made before you send them to the insulin pump. The settings report shows you the current settings in one column and the new settings in another, together with a chart of the changes to the basal rate profiles.
It may be helpful to have a printed copy of your settings to remind you of your changes or to give to your healthcare team. To print out your settings report, click the icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
You can print out the settings report at any time, without going to the settings report window. Simply click on the printer icon.
We´ve now covered all the features of the Accu-Chek 360° Configuration Software. If you find you need a reminder when using the program, simply click on the icon or the word Help at the top right hand side to access all the help files that explain how to use each of the features.
